One of the first games that I was able to play with my son when he was a toddler was a memory game. So this game has a special place in my heart and I enjoy it every time we play it!
We bought a couple of memory games in the last year but I also like to create some homemade games with themes that I know he will enjoy. This time I prepared a Christmas Memory Game and I am glad to share it with you!
It’s a game that can be easily played by both toddlers and older kids. The only difference would be the number of cards that you use for the game.
For young toddlers or kids who never played this game before I suggest to start with 8 cards. If the child is older or they already have experience with playing this game, you can use more cards (up to a total of 36 cards that are included in this set).
The memory game is a game that can be played by a single player but it’s much more fun if you play it as a family!
We transformed it into a collaborative game so the main goal is to find all the pairs together! If your child likes competitive games more, then you can compete to see who finds the more pairs until the end of the game.
Memory games are a great cognitive exercise for young kids. The game challenges children to sharpen their memory, focus, and concentration.
How to prepare and play the games
– Print the cards and cut each of them.
If you have a very young child you can only print the first 2 pages of cards; for older kids print all of them. For durability, it’s better if you print them on cardstock paper or if you laminate them.
– Select the number of cards you will use. You can start with fewer pairs and increase the number as the child gets used to the game.
– Put all the cards face down on the table.
– Players take turns looking under the cards in order to find matching pairs.
If a player finds a matching pair, they can take the two matching cards. If not, they put the cards face down again and the next player takes turns.
– The game ends when all the pairs are found.
