At the beginning of the year, for the first time in my life, I only set one resolution for this year. But it also was the most powerful one!
I wanted to allow myself to dream big and build a happy life one day at a time. So I made a commitment to myself: That every single day of the year I’ll try to do little things that make me happy, that I will believe in my dreams, and that I will have the courage to chase them.
This resolution is not about checking many things on a wish list in a short time. It’s about enjoying the present and creating a happy and meaningful life.
The first step I took at the beginning of the year was to start a bucket list. The list includes both small things that can bring me a smile in an ordinary day and big things that I dream of.
To be more intentional in my journey to a happier and more meaningful life, I’ve decided to post a monthly update on it. This will help me keep track of all the important things that happen in our life, celebrate the wishes that came true, and add new ideas to the list.
My hope is that these monthly reports will also inspire other moms to make more of their wishes come true! I want these reports to be helpful too, so I’ll share here our favorite finds from every month.
Let’s get started! 🙂
January: A month in a word
The main word that comes to my mind when I think about this month is work. Because I worked a lot on my blog and some online projects.
I know that it may sound strange to some of you but I really enjoy working. I feel blessed that I get to do things that I love and this makes those late work hours a lot more enjoyable!
What happened this month & Favorite finds
We enrolled Bogdan to a parent nursery school.
He will start preschool in March and I’m very happy about it. He will go there 3 afternoons a week and in one of the days, I’ll go there with him as a school volunteer. It’s a completely new experience for both of us!
To prepare him for this new preschool, I reintroduced ” The Kissing Hand” on our reading list! It’s such a wonderful book and is perfect for preparing kids for starting school.
Bogdan went on his first visit to our new dentist and he enjoyed it!
At first, he was scared of the idea of going to the dentist. But there were two things that made this experience very enjoyable:
– We took him to his dad’s dentist visit. He watched everything that happened and became more willing to interact with the dentist.
– We read the “Dentist Trip” book from the Peppa Pig series. I didn’t like the book very much at first but it was very helpful for preparing him for his dentist visit.
We enjoyed together the last subscription box from Little Passports.
We received a box from Little Passports every month for more than a year. And opening the box has become a very nice moment that we enjoy every month.
We both felt a little bit sad to say “goodbye” to Mia, Max, and Toby, the characters of the series. But we were also happy to try the activities from our new monthly subscription box.
If you never tried a subscription box for your child, you should try this! It’s like receiving a gift in your mailbox every single month! 🙂
My son’s favorite activities
Here are some of the things that Bogdan enjoyed the most this month:
– indoor scavenger hunts
This is an all-time favorite for my son and I use scavenger hunts very often as learning activities.
– riding the scooter
Bogdan received a razor scooter and roller skates in December. He is not confident yet about using the roller skates. But he loves the scooter! He burned off a lot of energy every day riding the scooter. Luckily for me, this made nap time a lot easier! 🙂
We have several activity books with mazes and he can’t seem to get bored of them.
I bought them for some home preschool activities. But I never imagined how much he will like using them. So we used them in many activities and they were a huge success!
My favorite activities
The book is written by Shonda Rhimes, the creator of “Grey’s Anatomy”. I loved her honest confessions and the great message that the book sends: to conquer fear and try new things that make us happy.
– going on mom-child dates with my son
I love doing this! I feel like every date brings us closer and fills us with joy! This month we discovered a new Indian restaurant together, we went on a color scavenger hunt in nature, and we visited a new library.
I pre-ordered the book as soon as I found out about it. It came exactly on the day when it was officially launched and started reading it right away!
I loved the author’s previous book (“No drama discipline“) and this book is interesting too! It’s not as practical as “No drama discipline” but it includes some important principles that every parent needs to know.
An update on my bucket list
If you’re curious to check out the list, you can find it here: Dream big. Dare more. Do the things that make you happy – My bucket list.
Wishes that came true this month
- Read “The Yes Brain: How to Cultivate Courage, Curiosity, and Resilience in Your Child“
- Read “Year of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand In the Sun and Be Your Own Person“
- Go on a new trip to Sacramento (we went there with my parents-in-law)
- Create a mini-course about blogging
- Discover 8 new subscription boxes with my son – we discovered 1 of 8, we still have 7 more to discover
New wishes on the list
I also added 7 new wishes to my bucket list. You can check them out here – they are marked with “added January 2018”.
January was a busy month and it was very focused on working! But we still enjoyed many happy moments!
In February I hope to focus more on having fun! It’s the last month before Bogdan starts preschool and I want to take advantage of this to plan some nice activities with him.
I’m looking forward to what February will bring to our life.
I wish you a happy and meaningful month, with many wonderful moments with your loved ones!
