At the beginning of every year I have a tradition of making a list of my resolutions for the new year, it helps me to have them written down and to be able to review them at any time. Last year I haven’t made a list and now it’s the first year-end when I don’t have a list to look back to and to see if my resolutions came true. I don’t want this to happen again, so I wrote down all my wishes and goals for 2017 and I really hope to make them true in the next 12 months.
First of all, I wish that in 2017 we will be healthy and happy together as a family. If I have this, I’m sure that all the other accomplishments will come if I am focused and determined.
1. To spend quality couple time with my husband
This is something we didn’t do very often in 2016. Somehow I feel like we were most of the time in the “parent roles” and only once in a while in our “couple roles”. I need to make a change in 2017, to start to plan date nights for us and to find enough time for us as a couple, even if this is difficult sometimes.
2. To learn how to have more patience with my little boy and how to avoid getting angry too fast
In 2016 I learned a lot of things about how to handle my own emotions for becoming a better mom, but I still need to learn how to better manage the difficult moments when I feel really angry.
3. To accomplish a parenting challenge throughout the year.
I thought a lot about this in the past month and I look for a parenting challenge to join this year, but I didn’t find anything appropriate. So I decided to create my own 12-month parenting challenge, to write it down on my blog and to follow it throughout this year. It would be wonderful if I could inspire other parents to join the parenting challenge, I think it’s a great way to stay committed to the goal of building a wonderful relationship between parent and child.
4. To plan more family activities during the week
We make a lot of things together during the weekend, but during the weekdays we don’t really have a plan and we often end up staying at home. I plan to find more family activities ideas in 2017 and to make our evenings more interesting.
5. To travel as much as I can
I plan to make a travel wish list for 2017 and I will try to check as many destinations on the list. In 2016 we traveled a lot and I enjoyed every trip and I hope to keep traveling at the same pace this year.
6. To read at least 12 books
In 2016 I read much less than I wanted and mostly parenting books. I plan to continue to read parenting books because they really helped me, but I also want to read books about social media, self-development and management. The goal of reading at least one book every month seems reasonable, we’ll see at the end of 2017 if it was really realistic.
7. To create a self-care ritual and to follow it
I want to invest more time in taking care of me and also I need to find a way to loose some weight, so it would be great to go to the gym at least 2 times a week. I would like to loose at least 8 kg by the end of the year.
8. To face 3 of my fears
This goal sounds pretty strange, but facing some personal fears can be a great way to gain more confidence in myself and to become stronger. For example, I am afraid of heights and when we travel I tend to avoid the attractions that imply facing this fear and I would like to change this. It doesn’t mean I will overcome those fears, but at least I will get more confidence about being able to face them.
9. To participate at some important events in America
One of my wishes after moving to California is to participate in some events that are popular here and to enjoy them (e.g. an American football game, an important basketball game). I would also like to participate in some conferences about parenting, travel and social media, but at this point, I don’t have a clear plan about this.
10. To assess my professional strengths and set a career path for the next years
I am at a point when my career path is unclear. I left my job in the financial industry for 6 months and I plan to use this time to think about what I want to do next: if I will return to the same job or I will make a change and focus on a different field.
11. To become more organized
I am a pretty organized person, but the last months were very chaotic and now I don’t have any clear daily schedule and this is really affecting me. Now I am a stay-at-home mom and most of my schedule is dedicated to my son and I tend to get too little time for me and for the things I like. I hope to be able to create a weekly schedule and to stick with it, because this will allow me to focus on all the important things and to find more time for me and my work without neglecting my parenting responsibilities.
12. To learn more about blogging and social media
I am really passionate about social media and I am fascinated by all the insights of the social platforms, so I would like to focus more on this.
I already have a Romanian blog that means a lot for me, especially for the wonderful community that gathered around it, but I want to learn more about the American way of blogging. In the past month, I noticed a lot of differences and it’s really challenging to build a blog from scratch in a completely new country.
– to accomplish an Instagram challenge
– to optimize my social media accounts and to use them in a smarter way (eliminating the useless time I spend “scrolling” the newsfeed)
– to write constantly on the blog
– to write about all my travel experiences
– to drink more water every day (this is a real issue for me right now and it’s something I really need to change)
– to take some online courses about management, blogging and social media
These are my resolutions for the new year! It’s a big list, but I have 12 months to make all these resolutions come true, so I am really hopeful about this! 🙂
I wish you all a happy New Year with a lot of joy and love!
