At the end of 2016, I made a list of the destinations that we visited during the year and it was a great way to remember some amazing moments from our trips. You can find the whole list here: 2016 – My travel year in review: 15 trips in 12 months in case you want to check it out.
Also, at the beginning of 2017, I made a travel wishlist for this year that included the destinations that I hoped to visit during the year.
Now, at the end of the year, it’s time to look back and see what this travel year has brought us. And it’s been awesome!
Even if the plans changed during the year and we haven’t checked all the destinations on the wish list, we ended up visiting more places that we would have imagined at the beginning of the year.

I’ve gathered here a quick update on my wishlist and also a list of our favorite trips from every month of 2017.
This year the trips were easier to manage because our son is older (he turned 4 in October) and he got used to long road trips. I am very happy that he likes traveling as much as we do because this makes things more fun for all of us!
Update on my travel wishlist for 2017
Here is an update on every single destination on my wish list.
1. Mexico 🙂
We visited Mexico in August and September. You can find details and pictures below.
2. Seattle 🙁
I haven’t visited Seattle but I added it to my wishlist for next year.
3. Napa Valley 🙂
We visited Napa Valley in January – pictures and details below.
4. Yellowstone National Park 🙁
We haven’t visited Yellowstone because we changed our mind after the visit to Yosemite National Park. The park was very crowded during the summer so I was afraid that we will find the same situation in Yellowstone so we canceled our trip.
5. Santa Barbara 🙂
We visited it in May during our road trip to Los Angeles.
6. Disneyland 🙂
We went to Disneyland in May. It wasn’t Disneyland Orlando as we initially planned because we decided to go to L.A. instead. And it was an awesome experience!
7. Florida Keys 🙁
We planned a vacation in Florida for the summer but we kept postponing it. First, we planned a longer vacation in Mexico and then our plans were postponed by the hurricane so we ended up not visiting Florida this year. I don’t know if we will add it to next year’s list but I hope to get to visit Florida Keys at some point.
8. Yosemite National Park 🙂
We visited the park in June but we haven’t enjoyed it as much as we hoped because it was very crowded.
9. Pacific Coast highway 🙂
We went on a road trip along the coast in May and it was wonderful.
My biggest dream came true
My biggest dream for 2017 when it comes to traveling was to visit 4 new states during the year. As the plans changed and we haven’t visited all the destinations on my initial wish list, this dream seemed a lot harder to accomplish. But in November we went on a spontaneous road trip and my dream came true!
It was really unexpected and it made me very glad! In addition to places in California and Nevada (where we also traveled in 2016), we visited places in Texas, Oregon, Utah, and Arizona.
Our travel year in review: Our favorite destination from every month
There are so many things that I could write about when it comes to our trips! But what I realized this year is that even though I love traveling, I’m not really good at writing about our trips. So my blog only reflects a few of the destinations that we visited.
This is why I’m glad to gather here our favorite trips from every month and I hope that they will inspire you to add some nice destinations on your travel wishlist for 2018.
I will start with the last month of 2016 because Las Vegas was a destination that we revisited this year during one of our road trips. It not really an ideal destination to travel with kids but we had fun during our stay! Bogdan also liked the farms on our way to Las Vegas so we had some nice stops along the way.
We started the year with some nice day trips and weekend trips in California, close to our home. One of my favorite day trips was the one on the 17-mile drive, an amazing place with stunning views of the ocean.
But our favorite trip of the month was our trip to Napa Valley – the perfect place to combine good wine and wonderful landscapes.
In February we started to explore San Francisco. It’s only 1-hour away from San Jose, so we like to go there on the weekends and visit some of the great attractions in the city. And we did this during the whole year!
You can discover our favorite places here: The best things to do in San Francisco with young kids.
In March my son started preschool so we were only able to travel during the weekends because I wanted him to adjust to the new schedule.
We still did some nice trips to places close to our home. Our favorite trip was the one to Sacramento. We liked the city and we promised to come back someday.
This month’s favorite destination was Lake Tahoe. We were totally unprepared for so much snow but we enjoyed the landscape and the nice atmosphere.
This month we visited a lot of nice places! We went on a road trip along the Pacific Coast highway from San Jose to Los Angeles.
We visited Santa Barbara and Los Angeles. Our favorite part of the trip was the visit to Disneyland because our son was very happy about it.
You can read more about our trip here:
In June my husband’s parents came to visit us. So we spent a lot of time with them and we showed them our favorite places that are close to our home.
We also went on a road trip to Yosemite National Park. The park is wonderful but we didn’t have the chance to enjoy it because it was very crowded.
It seems that I also lost the pictures that we took in the park, so I’ll add here some photos that we took while visiting other natural parks nearby.
July hasn’t brought us any trips because I worked every single weekend of the month. I knew that August and September will bring us a lot of vacation time so I wanted to take care of many things in advance.
In August we went to Cancun and we enjoyed many great experiences.
You can read more details about our vacation here:
After Cancun, we flew to Mexico City and we spent some days there. The city is huge and it’s totally different from other destinations that we visited before. We felt strange at first but then we enjoyed the city a lot!
September also brought me a trip to Portland. It was a very special trip for me because I went there to attend my first blogging conference since we moved to California.
In October we celebrated our son’s birthday with a surprise trip to San Diego. We loved the city and we hope to visit it again in the future!
This month brought us a road trip through Arizona and Utah. It was a very intense trip because we drove more than 2,200 miles (3,500 km) in only 5 days. But I loved that I had the chance to see the wonderful landscapes in these states. My favorite stop was in St. George (Utah) because I liked how quiet and nice the city was.
My husband enjoyed the visit to Meteor Crater (Arizona) the most and my son loved the Children’s Museum that we visited in Utah, so we all had a great time during the road trip.
To be included in next year’s review 🙂
This is how our travel year looked like! I’m very grateful that I have the chance to travel to so many nice places because this is one of my greatest passions. Traveling makes me happy and it gives me the opportunity to learn new things and live new experiences.
I can’t wait to see what 2018 will bring us and what places we will have the chance to discover.
At the end, I can only wish you an awesome 2018 with many amazing places to visit and many great family moments to enjoy!
