We teach our kids new lessons every day. But the truth is that the most precious lessons we give to our children are the ones that are hidden behind our everyday words and actions.
I thought a lot about this in the past weeks.
What are the things I want my child to learn from me? What kind of lessons does he learn from what I do or say?
Children watch us every day, and what they see or hear will guide them through life! We are the role models they have in front of their eyes all the time, and this is a huge responsibility!
The things we say or do will define how they understand life and how they think about themselves.
This thought makes me want to become a better person every day. It makes me want to be the kind of adult I want my child to become.
I cannot teach him about courage if I don’t dare to follow my dreams. I cannot teach him about kindness if I’m not kind to the people around me.
Motherhood is not only a journey of raising a child. It’s a journey of raising us to be the role models our children deserve!
Here are the things I want my child to learn from me. I can only hope that he will learn these lessons from me, even if I’ll also make mistakes along the way!
1. I want my child to learn to be kind.
I want him to treat every person with kindness. He needs to know that people need kind words from us even when they seem to deserve them the least. And I want him to know that he always deserves to be treated with kindness, and no one has the right to treat him otherwise.
2. I want to teach my child about respect.
I hope that he will learn that respect always matters. Respect means more than polite words. It means respecting other people’s feelings and opinions. And it also means respecting our own values and principles in everything we do!
3. I want to teach my child to see the real beauty in people.
Real beauty lies the heart and not in the external appearance, and I want him to know this! I hope that he will cherish a kind heart more than a pretty look. And that he will never judge other people by their appearances.
4. I want to teach my child to be brave.
Courage is not about not being afraid. It’s about being afraid and still doing what makes you feel scared. This is what I want him to know!
I wish that he will follow his dreams even if they scare him. I wish that he will always find the courage to listen to his heart and live his life with joy and courage!
5. I want to teach my child that he matters.
We often forget that this is one of the most important lessons a person needs to learn. All kids need to know that they are valued and that their dreams and wishes really matter!
When kids know this, they will always know to ask others to respect them. They will always have confidence in themselves, and they will never let others treat them badly!
6. I want to teach my child about true happiness.
I want him to know that happiness is our own responsibility! That no one else is responsible for making us happy. That we don’t need to expect other people to make us happy.
And also that other people’s happiness is not our responsibility.
Too many children grow up wishing to make their parents happy, as if this is their responsibility.
I want my child to grow up knowing that he doesn’t need to make me or anyone else happy. I want him to always pursue his happiness because no one else can do it for him!
7. I want to teach my child about generosity.
I hope that he will learn to give with all his heart and feel good about helping others! He needs to know that the way he wants others to treat him should be the way that he treats other people.
8. I want to teach my child to never give up.
I want him to know that failure doesn’t define us! Failure is only an opportunity to learn how to do things better.
I wish that he will never give up despite all obstacles. Perseverance is what makes us stronger every time we fail and is the only way we can ever reach our dreams.
9. I want to teach my child about unconditional love.
This is the most important lesson I want him to learn from me!
I try to show him each and every day that he is loved and valued for who he is.
I want him to know that he deserves to be loved exactly how he is. And that nothing he does could ever stop me from loving him!
I want to teach him that true love is always unconditional. I wish that he will love with all his heart, and I hope that he will always have around him people that will love him in the same way!
One day I will no longer be part of my child’s everyday life! One day he will have his own life far away from me, and in that moment, I can only hope that these life lessons will accompany him. I hope he will look back and feel lucky to have learned them! Because I know they can make a huge difference in his life!
