Inside: Prepare this easy and fun DIY memory game for kids and enjoy it with your little ones!
When my older son was younger, we used to play many memory games together. We had a few nice memory games like this one, but I also liked to create memory games for us to play together.
As he grew older, the simple memory games were no longer interesting enough, so I decided to try something different.
Because I had a lot of plastic eggs at hand, I used them to create this easy game. If you don’t have plastic eggs at home, you can use paper cups instead.
We enjoyed playing this game together and I hope you’ll try it with your kids as well!
DIY memory game for kids: How to prepare the game
This 2-player game is great for older kids because it makes the “classical” memory game more fun and engaging.
We called the game “Find your team” because we raced to find all the “team members” on our lists to win the game.
To prepare the game, you will need:
- plastic eggs (we only used the top part of the egg)
- small toy figures that can fit under the eggs (you need an even number of items so each player has the same number of “members” in their team)
- a list for each player.
After gathering all the toy figures you will use in this game, split them into two equal groups and write each group on a separate list.
Each player will get one of the lists and those will be the “team members” they need to find.
DIY memory game for kids: How to play the game
Place the toy figures under the eggs and mix them so you don’t know where each of the items is placed.
The players take turns naming a member of their team (e.g. “dragonfly”) and then lifting one of the eggs. If the item they where looking for is under the egg, they take it and check it off their list. If not, they place the egg back.
The only rule to follow is that the players can’t name the last 2 items that were revealed in the game (by them or the other player), except at the end of the game, when the player only has one item left on their list.
This makes the game more challenging because players need to remember what the items they saw for a longer time.
The winner is the player that completes their team first.
Enjoy and have fun!
