Materials

  • 5 plastic jars
  • small items to put in the jars (like felt balls, glass gems, mini clothespins, craft sticks, etc)

Instructions

  • To prepare the activity, fill each jar with a different type of small items. We used felt balls, glass gems, craft sticks, mini clothespins, and craft gems, but you can also use pom poms, LEGO bricks, crayons, etc.
  • Invite the kids to estimate how many items are in each of the jars. Give the kids 3 chances to guess, letting them know at each step if their estimated number is smaller or bigger than the correct number of items.
