Over the next 5 days, you’ll discover here the simple, proven strategies that will get your kids to spend less time in front of screens and more time engaging in creative play.
When I first became a mom, one of the hardest things for me to manage was having my son ask for my attention all the time. Keeping him “entertained” all day long felt overwhelming and made motherhood seem a lot harder than I ever expected.
Many days I was so exhausted that I didn’t truly get to enjoy the time I spent with him. I felt frustrated because I couldn’t get anything done without constant interruptions.
But at the same time, I felt guilty because I saw other moms posting awesome activities on social media all the time, and it seemed like I wasn’t doing enough for my son.
One day, as we were playing with some toy trains, I realized that even though I was there with my son, I wasn’t truly present. I didn’t enjoy what I was doing, and I’m pretty sure he could feel that. And this is not how I wanted the relationship with my son to be!
To be the fun mom I wanted to be, I needed to find time for myself so I could have a break or get other things done throughout the day without being interrupted all the time.
I didn’t want my son to end up spending hours in front of screens for me to get some alone time, so I put all my energy into learning how to encourage creative, independent play at home.
It took time to figure out how to get my child to play independently, but it made such a big difference in our home! Having time for myself made me a better mom because I felt more relaxed and was able to be fun and playful when we did spend time together.
