Every time I think about my husband I feel so lucky that he chose me to be his wife! He is such a wonderful man and I am grateful that he is part of my life!
We have gone through amazing moments together. And we’ve also gone through the most difficult moments of our life together.
The biggest challenge for our relationship was finding time for us after becoming parents. And this was very difficult for both of us. We found ways to overcome this challenge but we still struggle with it from time to time, when our life becomes too busy and we forget to focus on our relationship.
Sometimes I miss so much those moments when we could just watch movies all night and wake up the next day close to lunch time. Or when we walked through the park in the middle of the night, finding endless things to talk about. Or when we went just the two of us on a weekend getaway without any planning and with only a few clothes packed in a hurry.
Having a child brings us many wonderful moments every day but our life looks a lot different now than it used to look some years ago.

So this year I wanted my husband’s birthday to be an opportunity to remind him how much I love him. And to transform my gift for him into a commitment to invest more time into our relationship!
I always tried to prepare special gifts for him every year because I really want to fill his birthday with joy and make him feel loved!
My favorite ideas from the past years
Here are some of the best ideas that I tried in the last years, maybe they will inspire you too:
– a surprise city break to Madrid (This was probably the best gift that I ever prepared for him. He only found out about the trip when we arrived at the airport and he was very happy about it.)
– a weekend getaway to a spa resort (This happened before we had our son, so it was a very relaxing weekend just for the two of us!)
– a special baby outfit with a lovely message for him (This was the first gift that he received as a father. Our son was 7 weeks old and I prepared a special outfit for him to wear that was personalized with a love message for my husband. It was something easy to prepare and I think that it really touched his heart.)
– a romantic dinner and a night at an awesome hotel in our town (This happened after we had our son and getting on a weekend trip on our own was no longer possible. So I asked my mom to help me and I planned this surprise. We never left town but it felt like going on a short vacation.)
As you see, I like offering him experience gifts instead of material things. Because I truly think that they are the best way to surprise him and make him feel loved!

This year I wanted to prepare something similar. But now we live far away from our families so any surprise just for the two of us was out of the question.
This year’s idea: A meaningful gift for him and a love promise from me
I kept thinking about what he would like most. And in the last year, the one thing that he always said that he wants was more time for us and more meaningful moments together.
So I used this idea to guide me to creating two homemade gifts for him!
They were very easy to prepare and doesn’t cost a lot of money, so I want to share them with you and maybe they will inspire you!
The first gift is a special jar with love notes for my husband. I called him “30 reasons why I love you” (because my husband turned 30 this year) and contained 30 colored notes. Each of the notes contained one reason why I love him.
If you want to find out exactly how I prepared this special jar, you can find all the details here.

The second gift is my love promise to my husband.
It’s a collection of 36 date cards for a whole year of special moments for the two of us. Having 3 dates every month will be a wonderful way to connect and keep our relationship happy and strong.
I created all the date cards keeping into account that we don’t have any help with our son. So they can either be done at home after he falls asleep. Or they can be done by including our son into the date. The only exception is the weekend getaway when I hope that we’ll find a way to make it just for the two of us!
If you want to find out exactly how I created the Date Cards Collection, you can find all the details here, including the printable date cards.
Finding the best present for the one we love can be difficult sometimes. But I truly believe that our love and our commitment to cherish the relationship are the most precious gifts that we can offer to the person that we love.
If you liked these ideas, I hope that they will inspire you to create meaningful gifts for your loved one. And most of all, I hope that both you and your husband will enjoy this gift and will use it to celebrate your love and build wonderful new memories together.
