Inside: If you want to encourage your kids to explore nature in a playful way, download the printable nature scavenger hunt and enjoy this activity with your child!

After gathering a list of lovely nature activity ideas, I planned some nature walks to put some of the activities into practice. One of my favorite ideas was the nature scavenger hunt for kids, so I’ve created one for my son!

I wanted it to be suitable for his age and also suitable for the things we can find near our home. If you want to encourage your kids to explore nature,  a scavenger hunt can be a great activity to try with them!

Here is how you can plan this activity.

You will need:

  • the printed scavenger hunt checklist (you can download it at the end of the article)
  • a pencil or marker
  • a clipboard to attach the checklist (if you don’t want to use a clipboard, you can print the checklist on cardboard for more durability or even laminate it)
  • a small basket (or bag) for collecting items.

We always respect the rule of not harming nature in any way. So we don’t break leaves or petals and we never disturb anything growing.

We only collect leaves and petals that are already on the ground. We use all the collected items for the nature basket in our home.

  1. As a mom and a naturalist, I absolutely love this! I used to teach a naturalist summer camp for kids, and we did a scavenger hunt very similar to this, and the kids had a blast. I can’t wait until my little one is old enough to do this!
