Inside: If you are looking for the best baby registry essentials to add to your list, here is our complete second baby registry list that includes must-have items that you will actually use!
When I was pregnant with my first child, making a list of baby registry essentials was more complicated than I imagined. I didn’t know what I really needed, and although I wanted to keep the list to a minimum I was afraid that I will miss something important.
So I ended up buying more things that I needed. Some items we never got to use. Others were used just a few times, and turned out to be an unnecessary investment.
My lack of experience caused not only a waste of money, but also generated clutter because I had a lot more things that I needed.
So when I started to create my second baby registry I knew that I don’t want to repeat the same mistakes. First of all, because we have a small house and I don’t want it to because a crowded and unpleasant place to live. Second, because I don’t want to waste any money on items that I won’t actually use.
The 5-year age gap between my kids means that I have no baby things left from my first child, so my second baby registry needs to include everything I need for a newborn.
Luckily, my experience with my first baby registry list helped me reduce the number of items on my list, and pick many products that I already tested and loved when my son was a baby.
This is why I decided to share my list with you, in case you are looking for the best baby registry essentials to include on your list. I’m sure that it can be a good inspiration for both second-time moms like me and first-time moms who want to build a simple and practical baby registry list.
Why I chose the Amazon baby registry
There are several options available for creating a baby registry, but I chose Amazon for 3 main reasons:
- First of all, I love how easy and convinient it is to shop on Amazon! I do most of my online shopping on Amazon and I use services like Amazon Fresh and Prime Pantry on a regular basis to make my mom life easier. So choosing their baby registry wasn’t a hard choice!
- Second, I love that they offer a completion discount. This means that you get 10% off (or 15% off for Prime members) a one-time purchase of products from your registry. I plan to save this discount for a big order (including the stroller) so I can get a really big discount.
- Also, they offer free 90-day returns which makes it very easy to return any items you don’t like.
They also offer a nice welcome box with sample products for mom and baby. We received our box a few days ago and it was really cute!
My second baby registry: All the baby registry essentials we include on our list
Below you can find everything that we have on our baby registry list.
The products marked with a star (⭐) are products that we tested with our first child and we found very helpful.
The items marked with a heart (💙) are must-haves for babies that I would recommend any mom to add on her baby registry.
The rest of the items are very practical and helpful as well, but it all depends on how much money you want to invest in baby products, and what products you find useful for your family.
Baby registry essentials: Apparel
1 – Basic essentials set (Carter’s Baby 15-Piece Basic Essentials Set)
2 – 💙 Burp cloths (Luvable Friends Unisex Baby Flannel Burp Cloths)
3 – 💙 Baby socks (Simple Joys by Carter’s Baby 12-Pack Socks) ⭐
4 – 💙 Baby pants (Simple Joys by Carter’s Baby 4-Pack Pant) ⭐
5 – Sleeper gowns (Simple Joys by Carter’s Baby 3-Pack Cotton Sleeper Gown)
6 – 💙 Bodysuit and pant set (Simple Joys by Carter’s Baby 6-Piece Bodysuits (Short and Long Sleeve) and Pants Set) ⭐
7 – 💙 Sleep and play suits (Simple Joys by Carter’s Baby 2-Pack Cotton Footless Sleep and Play) ⭐
8 – 💙 Bodysuits (Simple Joys by Carter’s Baby 6-Pack Short-Sleeve Bodysuit) ⭐
9 – Sun protection hat (i play. Flap Sun Protection Hat | UPF 50+ all-day sun protection) ⭐
10 – Sleeper gowns (Simple Joys by Carter’s Baby 3-Pack Cotton Sleeper Gown)
11 – Non-slip socks (Yoga Socks for Women) – These socks are great for the hospital bag.
12 – Nursing robe (Baby Be Mine Maternity Labor Delivery Nursing Robe Hospital Bag Must Have) – I already have a maternity nightgown and a maternity robe from Baby Be Mine and I love them! I will buy an additional set for the long sleepless nights after birth.
Baby registry essentials: Bathing & skin care
1 – Bath towel (Hudson Baby Unisex Baby Animal Face Hooded Towel) ⭐ – These towels are very cute and practical and we used them every day for my son.
2 – 💙 Body wash & shampoo (Aveeno Baby Gentle Wash & Shampoo with Natural Oat Extract) ⭐ – Aveeno is my favorite brand for both my skin care products and my son’s bathing products, so I will use their products for the baby as well.
3 – Bathtub (The First Years Sure Comfort Deluxe Newborn to Toddler Tub) – We had a similar bathtub for our son and we used it every single evening! It made bathtime a lot easier for us, especially in the first months!
Baby registry essentials: Bedding
We decided that we won’t buy a crib for our baby because the one we bought for our son wasn’t used as much as we imagined! Instead, we will buy a basinet (so that the baby can stay close to me during the night in the first months) and a Pack ‘n Play system that we can easily move around the house or even fold and store if we end up co-sleeping with the baby. This is why the sheets and covers we selected for our second baby registry are designed to fit a Pack ‘n Play instead of a normal crib.
1 – 💙 Sheets for baby bed (Pickle & Pumpkin Pack n Play Sheet)
2 – Sheets for Pack ‘n Play mattress (Pickle & Pumpkin Graco Pack n Play Mattress Sheet)
3 – More sheets for Pack ‘n Play mattress (Pack n Play Playard Sheets Set)
4 – 💙 Mattress cover (Little One’s Pad Pack N Play Crib Mattress Cover) ⭐
5 – 💙 Receiving blankets (Simple Joys by Carter’s Baby 7-Pack Flannel Receiving Blankets) ⭐
6 – Swaddles (SwaddleMe Original Swaddle) ⭐ These baby swaddles helped my son fall asleep easier when he was a baby, and I hope they will have the same effect on my second baby.
Second baby registry: Car seat & accessories
1 – 💙 Baby car mirror (COZY GREENS Baby Car Mirror) – As the baby has a rear-facing car seat, this mirror is a must-have for the car. With my first child I was able to sit in the backseat next to him while my husband was driving, but this will no longer be possible now so the mirror will help me keep on eye on the baby from the front seat.
2 – 💙 Car seat (Graco SlimFit 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat) ⭐ – We used many Graco products over the last years and they never disappointed us. This convertible car seat is very practical because it can be used for a long time as the child grows up.
Baby registry essentials: Diapering
1 – 💙 Baby wipes (Pampers Baby Wipes Sensitive) ⭐
2 – Diaper sacks (Sassy Baby Disposable Diaper Sacks) ⭐ – These are the perfect alternative if you don’t want to invest in a diaper pail. And they are a lot cheaper!
3 – 💙 Diaper rash cream (Desitin Daily Defense Baby Diaper Rash Cream with Zinc Oxide) – We added diaper rash creams from two different brands on our registry because we want to test and see what works best on the baby’s skin.
4 – Healing ointment (Aquaphor Baby Healing Ointment)
5 – 💙 Diapers ⭐ (Pampers Swaddlers Size 1)
6 – Diaper bag (HaloVa Diaper Bag Multi-Function Waterproof Travel Backpack) – I already have a diaper bag so I’m not sure if I will buy another one anytime soon. Still, I loved this one because it is big and seems perfect for traveling.
Baby registry essentials: Feeding
I am determined to breastfeed my baby because breastfeeding has been an amazing experience with my son, and I hope that this second breastfeeding journey will go well. This is why on my list of baby registry essentials for feeding you will mainly see nursing products.
1 – Nursing bras (Sunzel Women’s Cotton Spandex Seamless Sleep Bra for Nursing and Maternity) ⭐
2 – Nipple shield (Medela Nipple Shield) ⭐ – This shield has been so helpful when I first started to breastfeed my son! On the first days the feeding times were very painful for me, and having these nipple shields made the pain more bearable.
3 – 💙 Baby bottle (Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Baby Bottle) ⭐ – Even if I plan to breastfeed, I want to have a few baby bottles at hand to use with pumped milk.
4 – Breast pump (Spectra Baby USA – S2 Plus Premier Electric Breast Pump) – I heard that many health insurance companies offer breast pumps for free, so I will contact my insurarer to see if they do. If not, I am considering purchasing an electric breast pump because it would allow my husband to feed the baby with pumped milk when I’m not home.
5 – Pacifier clips (Pacifier Clip by Dodo Babies Pack of 4 + Pacifier Case)
6 – Pacifiers (MAM Pacifiers) – ⭐ I have mixed feelings about pacifiers, but we ended up using pacifiers with my son, so I’ll have a few at hand for the baby as well.
7 – 💙 Nursing pillow (Boppy Original Nursing Pillow and Positioner) ⭐ – This pillow made breastfeeding a lot more comfortable when my son was a baby, so I plan to buy one for the baby as well.
8 – Nursing bras (Suekaphin 5PACK Nursing Bra)
9 – 💙 Washable nursing pads (Organic Bamboo Nursing Breast Pads) – I used disposable nursing pads with my first child but these washable ones seem more practical, so I will try them this time.
Second baby registry: Furniture & gear
When it comes to baby furniture every parent prefers different styles so it’s hard to make any recommendations. For our first child we bought a wonderful crib that we didn’t get to use because the baby wanted to stay close to me all the time. So we ended up buying a basinet and later a playard that we used for naps.
For this second baby registry I decided to buy both a basinet and a playard, and I think they are a better investment for us than a traditional crib.
1 – Basinet (Delta Children Deluxe Sweet Beginnings Bassinet)
2 – Changing table (Delta Children Infant Changing Table with Pad) – We have a changing table included in our Pack ‘n Play system but I think this table will be helpful for storing baby’s things as well.
3 – 💙 Playard mattress (Dream On Me 3″ Playard Mattress) ⭐ (or a crib mattress if you prefer this option)
4 – 💙 Pack ‘n Play Playard (Graco Pack ‘n Play Reversible Napper and Changer Playard) ⭐ (or a crib if you prefer this option)
5 – 💙 Baby monitor (VTech DM221 Audio Baby Monitor) ⭐ – We chose an audio monitor instead of a video one because we have a small house and we can quickly check on the baby anytime we want. The video monitor is more expensive and it didn’t seem a right investment for us.
6 – Basinet (2in1 Stationary&Rock Mode Bassinet) – I have two different basinet models on my registry because I like them both and I couldn’t decide yet.
Second baby registry: Gifts
For our first baby we received a lot of gifts that we didn’t use. So this time I hope that having a few gift ideas added to our baby registry will prevent this from happening again.
1 – Milestone cards (Milestone – Baby Photo Cards Original) ⭐ – I never used these with my son but I gave this set as a gift to several of my friends and they all loved it!
2 – Baby memory book (Ronica First Year Baby Memory Book & Baby Journal) ⭐ – This is another gift that I offered to some of my friends when they had babies, and it looks very cute, so I plan to use it for my baby as well.
3 – Diaper caddy (Baby Diaper Caddy Organizer)
4 – Handprint kit (Baby Handprint Kit) – I love the idea of framing the baby’s handprint and footprint, and I plan to offer a framed keepsake to my parents as well!
5 – Gift set with bath products (Aveeno Baby Essential Daily Care Baby & Mommy Gift Set) ⭐
6 – Bathtime gift set (Aveeno Baby Daily Bathtime Solutions Gift Set to Nourish Skin for Baby and Mom) ⭐
Baby registry essentials: Health & baby care
1 – Cream for eczema (Aveeno Baby Eczema Therapy Nighttime Balm with Natural Colloidal Oatmeal for Eczema Relief)
2 – 💙 Baby thermometer (Hobest Baby Thermometer) – This is a must-have for every family with kids.
3 – 💙 Baby toothbrush (Baby Banana Infant Training Toothbrush and Teether)
4 – Nasal aspirator (Fridababy NoseFrida Nasal Aspirator) – ⭐ I never imagined that I would ever use this product when I first saw it, but it was very helpful when my son had his first cold.
5 – 💙 Nail clipper (Safety 1st Steady Grip Infant Nail Clipper) ⭐
Second baby registry: Strollers
I have three strollers on my baby registry right now because I haven’t decided yet which one is the best for us. I tend to prefer the Graco stroller because I like their products, but the other two have great reviews as well.
1 – 💙 Graco stroller (Graco Modes Stroller)
2 – Baby Joy stroller (BABY JOY Baby Stroller)
3 – Evenflo stroller (Evenflo Pivot Modular Travel System)
Second baby registry: Toys
The only toys I added to our registry are play mats because I think they are some of the few toys that are really helpful for babies in the first months.
1 – Tummy time mat (Bright Starts Tummy Time Prop & Play)
2 – Activity gym (Skip Hop Baby Treetop Friends Activity Gym/Playmat)
3 – Play gym (Fisher-Price Deluxe Kick ‘n Play Piano Gym)
Second baby registry: Other items
The only thing on this section of the list that is certainly helpful is the baby laundry detergent. I added the other items to the list because other moms recommended them but I’m not sure if we really need them. Probably I’ll wait until the baby is born and decide afterwards if we will also buy one of these products or not.
1 – Sleeper for bed-sharing (SwaddleMe by Your Side Sleeper)
2 – Bandana bibs (Matimati Baby Bandana Bib Set)
3 – Glider (Windsor Glider and Ottoman)
4 – 💙 Baby laundry detergent (Dreft Stage 1: Newborn Hypoallergenic Liquid Baby Laundry Detergent) – We will wash all the baby clothes, sheets, and receiving blankets separately using a gentle detergent, so this item is a must-have on our list.
5 – Burp cloths (Baby Burp Cloths Set)
6 – Over the door organizer (Simplehouseware Over Door/Wall Mount 4 Clear Window Pocket Organizer)
