I wrote about my travel year in review and I realized that 2016 brought us a lot of wonderful trips and I want to continue with even more travel in 2017. My main travel goal last year was to discover great destinations in Romania and show them to my little boy and I am very glad I did this before we moved abroad. This year I want to travel through the United States and enjoy the most of our stay here. I made my travel wish list for 2017 and although most of the destinations are in the USA, there are also other places outside the US I hope to visit this year.
You will see that my list is pretty long and realistically speaking I don’t think I will be able to travel to all these places, especially since I am sure that other unplanned destinations will appear along the year. The purpose of this list is to have a wish list at hand and to try to check as many places on it as I can. At the end of the year, it will be nice to look back at this list and see how much of it will be checked. 🙂
I start with this destination because it’s my husband’s favorite and I really hope to make his dream come true.
This destination was on our list in 2016, but the fact that we moved to California changed our plans and made us postpone this vacation. I hope to fulfill our dream of traveling to Mexico in 2017, Cancun is a place we really want to visit soon!
It may sound strange, but since I started watching Grey’s Anatomy I often think about visiting Seattle. This idea seems even more achievable now because it would take me only a couple of hours by plane to get there. It would be great to visit the Space Needle with my little boy, I am sure he will enjoy it a lot! (state: WA)
3. Napa Valley
We are lucky to have the Napa Valley close to our home, so I plan to get there soon and enjoy the beautiful landscapes and the tasty wines! Napa Valley is one of the world’s premier viticultural regions and it hosts more than 400 wineries. I read about the hot air balloon rides above the valley and they seem really amazing.
Update: I started to write this post in December last year and in the meantime, I already visited Napa Valley in January. 🙂
4. Yellowstone National Park
I think that this destination doesn’t need any additional description and I’m sure it would be an amazing place to visit! Yellowstone was the first National Park in the U.S. and is also one of the first national parks in the world. (state: WY)
5. Santa Barbara
We wanted to make a road trip to Santa Barbara at the end of 2016, but our vacation in Las Vegas postponed the trip. I hope we will get there this year because I’m sure we will really enjoy some time on the wonderful beaches in the city! Santa Barbara lies between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, so the landscapes are certainly amazing!
Update: We visited Santa Barbara in May.
I wish to take Bogdan to Disneyland this year, I’m sure he will enjoy the attractions in the park especially if he gets the chance to meet Mickey Mouse! 🙂 There are two alternatives for this trip: flying to Los Angeles and visiting the Disneyland there or flying to Florida and combining the visit to Disneyland with a road trip to the Florida Keys, the next destination on my wish list!
Update: We went to Disneyland California in May. Here are some photos from our visit.
7. Florida Keys
I read so much about the Florida Keys and I dream to make a road trip there and to enjoy the wonderful views of the ocean! The long flight to get there makes it more difficult for us to travel to Florida, but maybe we will be lucky and we’ll find a wait to make this dream come true! (state FL)
8. Yosemite National Park
Yosemite is one of the largest and least fragmented habitat blocks in the Sierra Nevada, so I think it’s the perfect place to enjoy the nature. I hope we will make a road trip to Yosemite this summer.
9. Pacific Coast Highway
The Pacific Coast Highway is one of the most amazing driving experience in California. The road goes along the California coast from Carmel to Morro Bay and it’s among America’s most scenic drives. I read this article on National Geographic and I can’t wait to explore all the beautiful places along the highway.
Update: We drove along the Pacific Coast Highway during our road trip to Los Angeles, in May. It was really incredible!
My dream for this year would be to visit 4 American states where I haven’t been before. Until now I visited New York, California, and Nevada and I would be happy to discover 4 new states. I don’t know if I would make it, but I will certainly try! 🙂
I have also two “long-term” dreams that I want to write down, maybe they will com true one day: the biggest is to visit Australia (but this seems unlike to happen soon) and the other one is to visit Canada and make a road trip through one of its natural parks (this dream seems more likely to happen now that we live in the US).
What are the destinations on your travel wish list for this year?
I would be glad to find out your plans and to find some inspiration for future trips. I wish you all a year full of wonderful trips!
