Spending quality time together as a family is one of the most powerful ways to build a close relationship with our little ones.
But when life gets busy, planning family activities can easily slip through the cracks. Before we know it, weeks go by without intentionally setting aside time for fun together.
An easy way to become more intentional about doing fun family activities on a regular basis is to plan them in advance and turn them into a habit.
This is why, this month, I want to invite you to create a little box of pre-planned family activities that will help you enjoy more happy moments with your kids.
How to create your little box of pre-planned activities
This simple idea takes the guesswork out of planning activities by giving you a set of fun ideas ready to go whenever you need them.
Here’s how to put it into practice in just four steps:
- Create your box of 8 pre-planned activities using the instructions below.
- Decide on a schedule for your family activities to turn them into a habit. (We chose to do one activity every weekend for eight weeks, but you can adjust the frequency to fit your family’s schedule — once a week, twice a month, or whatever works best!)
- Let your kids pick an envelope the day before a scheduled activity to build excitement and anticipation.
- Enjoy the activity together and make wonderful memories as a family!

What you’ll need
To put together your little box, gather the following materials:
- Envelopes
- Small pieces of paper (index cards work great for writing activity descriptions and needed materials)
- Stickers to decorate the cards
- A small box to store your envelopes
- (optional) Card stock paper & stickers to create family fun tokens

How to put it all together
- Choose 8 fun family activities that you’d love to try with your kids. (I’ve included a list of ideas below to help you get started!)
- Write a short description of each activity, breaking it down into three simple steps so your kids know what to expect and can get excited about it.
- Make a checklist of needed items for each activity to ensure you have everything ready.
- (optional) Create family fun tokens – small cut-out circles from cardstock with stickers and handwritten labels. Kids love collecting them after each activity!
Seal each activity in an envelope and place all envelopes in your box. If some activities depend on good weather, add a small mark on the envelope as a reminder.
Share the plan with your family and start enjoying your special moments together!
